Geneva 2017: Aston Martin's new hypercar name officially revealed
The public debut of the "Astonmartin" prototype AM-RB 001 took place in the middle of last summer, but only after a while the British brought their "monster" to the Geneva Motor Show. The hypercar from Aston Martin received an interesting name Valkyrie, which differs in philosophy from the names of existing cars.
So Virage, Vulcan, Vantage and Vanquish are in no way similar to the Scandinavian theme, like the new "Valkyrie". According to the mythology of the Scandinavian countries, the Valkyrie is a maiden who accompanies the fallen soldiers on the battlefield to the halls of Valhalla. It is likely that by doing so, the engineers from Aston Martin hinted at the fact that the new hypercar of the British will "send to another world" most of the current hypercars, ranging from the 918th "Spyder" from Porsche to Ferrari LaFerrari.
The Valkyrie hypercar was developed in cooperation with the Formula 1 team - Red Bull Racing. Its defiant appearance is similar to the cars of the queen of motor racing, and besides, the ratio of mass to power is 1 to 1. Only the Swedish Koenigsegg One: 1 has the same ratio.
Under the small hood of the "British Valkyrie" is a classic V12, naturally aspirated 6.5-liter Cosworth engine, producing about 900 horsepower. In addition to this, there are electric motors with the possibility of energy recovery, for which the system from Rimac is responsible. The Aston Martin Valkyrie uses a Ricardo seven-speed gearbox.
Accelerated braking is provided by carbon ceramic brakes from Surface Transforms and Alcon, encased in 20 and 21-inch magnesium discs at the front and rear, respectively. The wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires with a dimension of 265/35 ZR 20/21. At the same time, the entire filling is enclosed in a Multimatic carbon monocoque weighing 900 kilograms, in which there was a place for both Bosch security systems and LED optics from Wipac.
As they say in the camp of the British manufacturer, the acceleration to 320 kilometers per hour will be 10 seconds. However, alas, only 175 citizens of our world can use the super-fast "monster" with a Scandinavian name. Aston Martin plans to release only 25 track versions and 150 "civilian" modifications, which by the way have already been sold out. It is assumed that the first "Valkyries" will appear in garages next year.
